Public Transportation

Getting to and from Boston Logan on public transit is convenient, efficient, and affordable. The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) provides several public transportation services to and from Boston Logan, including the Blue Line, the Silver Line 1 (SL1), and ferry service.

Take the T to the airport! The Blue Line subway connects downtown Boston directly to the airport. Once travelers reach Airport Station, terminals at Boston Logan are just a free shuttle ride away - take the Route 88 bus direct to the terminals. 

The Blue Line connects to the Orange Line at State Street and to the Green Line at Government Center. The Blue Line is a great route to Back Bay, Downtown Boston, Fenway Park, Boston University, Northeastern University, Boston College, Brookline, the Longwood Medical Area, Newton, and North Station.

MBTA Silver Line 1 (SL1)

The MBTA’s Silver Line 1 (SL1) goes directly to all terminals and connects Boston Logan to Boston’s South Station. This option is free for travelers from the airport to downtown.

The Silver Line 1 (SL1) includes a free transfer to the Red Line. The Silver Line 1 (SL1) is your best route to Downtown Boston, South Station, the Seaport District, Boston Convention and Exhibition Center, Cambridge, Harvard University, Massachusetts General Hospital, and MIT.

Ferry

MBTA Water Ferry

The MBTA offers year-round water ferry service between Boston Logan’s Water Transportation Dock and Boston’s Long Wharf, Hull and Hingham. Seasonal weekday service is available to Winthrop and Quincy from April 28th through November 26th. Weekend service to Winthrop and Quincy begins May 17, 2025. 

Passengers can take our free On-Airport Shuttle (Route 66) to and from the Water Transportation Dock and the terminals.

Ferry to Boston Logan

Plan your trip from Boston Logan on public transportation in advance by accessing real-time schedules, route maps, and fare information on the MBTA website. To access MBTA public transportation from Boston Logan, go to the Arrivals level and follow signage for Ground Transportation.

  • For Blue Line access, follow signage for our On-Airport Shuttle and take Route 22, 33, 55, or 66 to Airport Station.  
  • For FREE Silver Line 1 (SL1) access to Downtown Boston, follow signage for the Silver Line, which will pick you up at the terminal curb and bring you to the South Boston Waterfront/Seaport and South Station.
  • For Water Ferry access, follow signage for our On-Airport Shuttle and take Route 66 to the Water Transportation Dock.
  • For bus routes Silver Line 3 (SL3) to Chelsea and 104 to Malden Center, follow signage for our On-Airport Shuttle and take 22, 33, 55 or 66 to Airport Station and transfer to those buses.

To get from downtown Boston to Boston Logan International Airport using the MBTA Blue Line:

 

  1. Take the Blue Line subway toward Wonderland.
  2. Get off at Airport Station.
  3. Follow signs for the free Massport Airport Shuttle.
  4. Board routes 88, 22, 33, or 55, which stop at all airline terminals.

 

The on-airport shuttle connects directly from Airport Station to all Boston Logan Airport terminals.

  • Take the on-airport shuttle from the terminal to Airport Station
  • Take the Blue Line to State Street
  • Transfer to the Orange Line toward Oak Grove
  • Get off at North Station for Commuter Rail and Amtrak

This route allows Commuter Rail and Amtrak passengers at North Station to connect to the Blue Line for service to Logan Airport. 

Taking the MBTA to Boston Logan International Airport is typically the most affordable option. A one‑way subway or bus fare is usually $2.40 using a CharlieCard or contactless payment.  

  • The Silver Line SL1 bus is free from Logan Airport to South Station (downtown Boston).  
  • Traveling to Logan Airport on the Silver Line or subway requires a standard fare.  
  • Massport on‑airport shuttle buses are always free between terminals and transit connections.

For most travelers, public transportation will offer the lowest cost transit option, especially for solo travelers.
