Phillip Eng

Phillip Eng leads Massachusetts’ transportation network as Interim Secretary of Transportation and General Manager of the MBTA. With nearly 40 years of experience, he is committed to improving safety, reliability, and modernization across all modes of transportation.

Current Roles

• Interim Secretary of Transportation (appointed October 2025)
  • Oversees the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) and its agencies, including Massport, which manages Logan International Airport and other regional transportation facilities.
  • Coordinates statewide transportation strategy to strengthen connectivity and support economic growth.
• General Manager & CEO of MBTA (since 2023)
  • Focused on improving safety, service reliability, and customer experience.
     

Massport Connection

• Works closely with Massport to align airport and port operations with statewide transportation initiatives.
• Supports integrated planning for communities, housing, and business development throughout the Commonwealth.
   

Career Highlights

• Former President, Long Island Rail Road and Interim President, NYC Transit at the MTA.
• Led modernization programs including the Subway Action Plan and Forward program.
• Served as Executive Deputy Commissioner, NYSDOT, delivering major projects such as the Kosciuszko and Mario M. Cuomo bridges.
