Two Outstanding Local High School Students Receive Awards
2025 Scholarship Winners

The Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) today announced the recipients of the annual Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Scholarships. The 2025 awards were presented to two outstanding students: Susana Alvares Ruiz of Jamaica Plain and Alexander Lee of East Boston, both recognized for their exceptional academic achievements, community service, and commitment to STEM fields.

“We are excited to award these two Massport STEM Scholarships,” said Massport CEO Rich Davey. “Everything we do here at Massport involves STEM. There are countless career paths in the tech and science industries for students to explore, and so many opportunities here in Massachusetts. We wish Alexander and Susana the best of luck at school, and hope these scholarships encourage even more students to take a serious look at the STEM disciplines when planning their career paths.”

Alexander is a recent graduate of Boston Latin School and will soon attend Carnegie Mellon University to study Electrical and Computer Engineering. Alexander was a member of Northeastern University’s Young Scholar Program while in High School and presented at the 2024 MIT Undergraduate Research Technology Conference. He also self-taught himself circuit design.

Susana is a graduate of The John D. O’Bryant School of Mathematics and Science and will be attending Wentworth Institute to study Architecture. She participated in Wentworth’s Summer FAB program, contributing to a full-scale, community-centered design project in Charlestown, and joined the ACE Mentor Program to gain professional experience in architecture, construction, and engineering.

Scholarships are awarded to graduating high school students who have a minimum 3.0 grade point average, have shown an interest in pursuing a degree that could be utilized in the transportation industry, have done community service, accepted to an accredited college or university and have submitted essays describing their career interests and community service involvement.  To date, the program has awarded approximately $110,000 in scholarships to 50 students from or attending school in Boston, Chelsea, Winthrop, Revere, Worcester, Bedford, Concord, Lexington, and Lincoln.
