CT National Guard to Begin Helicopter Training at Worcester Regional Airport

WORCESTER – In collaboration with the Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport), the Connecticut Army National Guard will begin scheduled helicopter pilot training at Worcester Regional Airport (ORH) on Tuesday, August 11, 2020. The training will not affect commercial flight activity. Units from the MA, RI and CT National Guard have trained at ORH before, but not on an extended schedule.

“Our goal is to be a great community partner,” said Airport Director Andy Davis. “We are pleased to be able to host the Guard’s helicopter training here at Worcester Regional Airport.”

Scheduled Training:

Tuesdays

9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Wednesdays and Thursdays

3 p.m. – 10 p.m.

One weekend a month

The Guard unit will be training with two types of helicopters – the UH60 and the CH47. The training includes touch and goes, which are quick landings and takeoffs, and landings in different terrain. ORH is unique because of its location atop a hill and the training will take advantage of the topography. No troops will be present for this training.
