Design Technologies Integration Group (DTIG)

Learn more about DTIG, part of Massport’s Capital Programs and Environmental Affairs Department.

The Design Technologies Integration Group (DTIG) supports all Massport departments and projects by providing resources for computer-aided design (CAD) and building information modeling (BIM), graphics, computer maintenance management system , geographic information systems (GIS), and integrated workplace management systems implementation. DTIG is responsible for managing and maintaining all CAD/BIM, GIS, record, and as-built drawings.

DTIG also oversees the review of design and construction drawings and models for content and compliance with Massport standards. It is responsible for facilitating BIM Execution Plan development on projects and for reviewing emerging technology and updates to the technology and standards Massport applies to our projects.

Building Information Modeling and Virtual Design and Construction

DTIG is responsible for implementing and enforcing virtual design and construction (VDC) processes and standards for all capital project design and construction projects. DTIG reviews all record drawings and spatial data deliverables for compliance with the vision and mission of Capital Programs and Environmental Affairs to build a virtual campus.

BIM is the tool we use for effectively and efficiently designing, constructing, managing, and representing a facility throughout its life cycle.  BIM provides a digital representation of the physical and functional characteristics of a facility. VDC leverages Lean processes and BIM data to deliver consistently better outcomes for our capital improvement projects.

DTIG BIM Guidelines

A BIM guide for horizontal and vertical projects was developed and implemented in 2015 and updated in 2023. All future design and construction projects should be carried out using VDC technology. This allows Massport to reduce costs and improve the programming, construction, maintenance, and operation of our facilities.

All architects, engineers, and building contractors engaged directly or indirectly by Massport must follow our standards.

DTIG manages the technology components of the Massport Infrastructure Condition Assessment Program and supports this effort by providing vital GIS data of Massport’s building facilities, underground utilities, roadways, and airfield.
