The Stars Shine at Boston Logan International Airport
Employees Performing "Above and Beyond" Receive Appreciation Award

The Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) today recognized seven Boston Logan International Airport employees and four aviation business partners with a “Logan Stars” award for their outstanding customer service. The awards are presented by the Authority to recognize non-Massport employees who exemplify an “above and beyond” work ethic, and give the nearly 11,000 members of the Logan Airport community an opportunity to honor their peers for superior individual achievement.

“Logan’s biggest asset is its employees,” said Massport’s Director of Aviation Edward C. Freni. “The airport has a national reputation for safety, security, customer service and environmental stewardship. Today’s honorees are reasons why Logan is New England’s airport of choice.”

The award was created to recognize the contributions of Logan employees in five distinct categories:

  • Providing exceptional customer service
  • Engaging in an act of heroism
  • Improving safety or security
  • Increasing operational efficiency or excellence in a way that benefits the Logan community
  • Creating innovations or new work processes that benefit the Logan community as a whole

Logan Airport employees receiving the “Logan Stars” award were: Diego Amboise, Braintree Logan Express driver for Paul Revere Transportation, LLC; Maria Baeza and Wilfredo Torres, cleaners with UNICCO Service Company; the late Normand Beland, Sr., who was with USO New England; Ryan Gourd, Executive Housekeeper at the Hyatt Harborside; Angela Jemmott, Customer Service Representative for Continental Airlines; and Tricia Tonge-Riley, Master Behavior Detection Officer with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). Aviation business partners receiving the “Logan Stars” award were: Amy Breton, Emergency Head Technician with the Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Center of New England; Brian O’Connor, Manager of Rescue Services with the Animal Rescue League of Boston; Barbara Legatowitz, Animals in Disaster Coordinator with the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency; and Norman Smith; director of the Blue Hills Trailside Museum operated by the Massachusetts Audubon Society.

Boston Logan, 15 minutes from Routes 128/90 and 5 minutes from downtown Boston, serves as the gateway to the New England region and offers nonstop service to 31 international destinations and in 2008 handled 26.1 million passengers. Boston Logan is the Air Line Pilot Association’s Airport of the Year for 2008 because its commitment to safety. Over the past decade, more than $4.4 billion has been spent building new terminals, parking facilities – including a cell phone lot, roadways, airfield improvements and airport concessions, all of which has transformed the airport into a world-class 21st Century facility and the airport of choice for all of New England.
