The Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) website has been selected as a winner in the Best Travel, Tourism and Hospitality category for the 2003 MIMC Awards. The annual MIMC Awards is the largest awards competition in the country that recognizes achievements in the development and implementation of interactive technologies and applications. Winners were announced in 28 categories at an awards ceremony attended by nearly 1,000 industry professionals on October 21st at the Boston Copley Place Marriott.

"Massport's website provides valuable real-time information to millions of travelers and local residents," said Massport CEO Craig Coy. "Massport is always looking for ways to make the site more customer-friendly and we are pleased that MIMC has recognized our efforts."

Entries were judged by over 100 industry professionals representing various disciplines including creative directors, designers, technologists, media representatives, industry analysts, investors and business professionals.

"Technology and innovation continue to thrive in New England and our Award winners are a true testament to that fact," said Leslie Cushing, Executive Director of MIMC. "Their work clearly demonstrates how companies are leveraging technology to help build their businesses."

Massport's website (www.massport.com), launched in June of 1999, was designed to provide all users with real-time information, including updates on construction, airline arrivals and departures, tips on parking and avoiding traffic, and details on bidding and professional opportunities. Massport added an Airport Monitor flight tracker feature to the site in 2002 and made major improvements to the Flight Information Display section. The improvements include integrated radar based flight data, graphical flight tracking and flight specific airport information.

Massport has received numerous awards for the website, including:
  • The New York Festival's 1999 grand prize for the Interactive Multimedia Competition, an international event where Massport beat out Mercedes Benz, NASA, American Express, Sapient and Audi.
  • The New York Festival's 1999 Gold Medal for best site in the consumer targeted information category.
  • The American Association of Port Authority's (AAPA) Award for Excellence for a port homepage.
  • The Airport Council International's (ACI) award for best website.
  • Boston Magazine's top 120 sites in town.
  • Newmedia INVISION Silver Medal for creative and technical excellence.
  • WebAwards 1999 winner of outstanding website.
  • Omni Intermedia's Silver Medal for outstanding media production in an interactive, multi-level production to create a high impact presentation.
  • Web Marketing Association's Outstanding Website Award.
  • Three previous awards from the Massachusetts Interactive Media Council (MIMC) including: "Best of Show," "Best Use of Technology," and "Best Business to Consumer Marketing Online Site."
The 2003 MIMC Awards were sponsored by boston.com, Goodwin Procter, Hunt & Gather, IBM, Lycos, Mass High Tech, Nixon Peabody LLP, PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP and Technology Review. For the full list of winners go to www.mimc.org.
