The Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) has invited students from local schools and educational programs to participate in an art contest to celebrate the Centennial of Flight. The art contest is part of a day-long centennial celebration taking place at Logan International Airport on December 17, 2003.
Logan Airport is joining hundreds of airports and aviation organization across the country in commemorating this historic aviation anniversary. December 17, 2003 marks one hundred years since the Wright Brothers first took flight at Kitty Hawk, N.C.
The celebration at Logan will include an aviation-themed art display created by local youth. Students in grades 5-12 in East Boston, South Boston, Chelsea, Revere, Winthrop and Charlestown have been invited to participate through their school or other educational program. U.S. Savings bonds will be presented to the three top artists from each participating community.
Students interested in submitting art for the contest should check with their art instructor or school principal for more information.
