The Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) today approved an operating agreement to allow Boston-Maine Airways to offer seven roundtrip flights a day from Hanscom Field to the Cape and Islands. The affiliate of New England-based Pan Am Airways is awaiting approval from the FAA to commence the convenient flights from the Bedford airport.
"Massport is committed to providing passengers alternatives to Logan Airport," said Virginia Buckingham, Massport Executive Director and CEO.
Massport is engaged in an innovative regionalization strategy aimed at reducing the burden on Logan International Airport and its neighbors, and fairly and efficiently handling future air travel demand. Along with Acela high-speed rail and increased service from the region's airports, including Worcester Regional Airport and Hanscom Field, New England is offering consumers more choices than ever. With improvements to Logan, including a new runway to reduce delays, Massport is working to build a strong, intermodal network that offers more independence, convenience, and fairness.
Buckingham recently traveled to Washington, DC to testify before Congress on the need for more flexibility in continuing New England's regionalization efforts.
