The Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) today delivered the latest installment in a $9.6 million commitment to the East Boston Foundation, a community organization that funds various programs that benefit East Boston. The $800,000 check will go towards programs that provide affordable day care, youth recreation and athletic opportunities, community events, and other local initiatives. So far, recipients of the grants include East Boston Youth Hockey, Harborside Community Center, Italia Unita, Jeffries Point Neighborhood Association, Little Folks Day Care, Piers Park Sailing Program, the local YMCA, and the East Boston Chamber of Commerce.
"I am proud that Massport can continue this vital partnership with the East Boston community," said Virginia Buckingham, Massport Executive Director and CEO. "While Logan Airport drives the local economy and provides thousands of jobs for nearby residents, it also has a significant impact on the surrounding communities. Today, Massport helps make East Boston a better place to live and raise a family."
In addition, the program has funded open space procurement, important neighborhood events such as Eastie Pride Day, and several after school programs.
