The Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) announced today that Houssam "Sam" Sleiman P.E., has been appointed director of Massport's Capital Programs and Environmental Affairs Department where he will oversee the development of Massport's capital programs including construction at Logan International Airport, the public terminals at Boston's seaport, the Tobin Bridge, Hanscom Field, Worcester Airport and numerous waterfront properties.
"Sam has a proven track record for managing large and complex projects," said Massport CEO Craig P. Coy. "During the airport's $4 billion Modernization Program, it was Sam's responsibility to insure that Logan remained functional and that passenger inconveniences were kept to a minimum. Considering the scope of the project, which was to virtually rebuild the airport from the ground up, including new terminals, parking garages, enclosed walkways, hotels and new roadways, this, was quite an achievement for Logan and our 27 million passengers."
In 2003, Sleiman was the recipient of the Manuel Carballo Award for his role in designing a 100% in-line baggage screening system at Logan Airport. The program enabled Logan to become the only major airport in the country to meet the federally-mandated baggage screening deadline of December 2002 with a permanent in-line system. The Manuel Carballo Award is given each year to ten individuals or groups that exemplify the highest standards of public service in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Sleiman has been with Massport since 1993 and has held the positions of Program Manager and Director of Aviation Administration & Development performing a variety of engineering design, management and administrative duties. Prior to joining Massport, Sleiman held several senior management positions in both the public and private sectors of the engineering and construction industries. Sleiman is a graduate of Northeastern University where he received a Master of Science Degree in Civil Engineering.
Sleiman lives in the Town of Lexington with his wife and two children.
