BEDFORD – The Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) announced today the Runway 11-29 Rehabilitation project at L.G. Hanscom Field, which will take place from the beginning of August through late-September, 2017 and see the repaving of Hanscom’s most used runway.
During this critical project, Hanscom Field’s Runway 11-29 will remain closed for the month of August; however, Runway 5-23 will be available for use during this period with the exception of one weekend where it will be necessary to close both runways to rehab their intersection. The work will continue 24-hours a day to expedite the project and reduce the impact to both the flying public and the host communities of Hanscom Field. After this initial 30-day closure, overnight closures will continue through late-September.
Currently, the goal is for the project to be completed in its entirety by late-September. This work is part of routine, but essential, safety maintenance projects that occur annually throughout airport property. Officials at Hanscom have been working with our aviation partners to prepare in advance for this closure and have briefed the Hanscom Field Advisory Commission about potential impacts to the field’s neighboring towns.
While routine, this project will rehabilitate one of Hanscom’s critical runways as we work to continuously maintain the infrastructure to ensure the safest environment for the traveling public, our employees and surrounding communities.
