The Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) announced today that the Flight Safety Foundation has named Logan International Airport as the winner of its 2005 Airport Safety Award. The award recognizes the Logan Airport Airside Safety Working Group for its contribution to airport safety and the implementation of a ramp safety program. The Logan Airside Safety Working Group consists of nearly 25 public and private organizations including the FAA and airlines.
This year's award recognizes Logan's efforts to reduce by 50 percent the number of ground vehicle incidents, and significantly decrease the number of fuel spills on the airfield ramp. Logan's ramp safety program includes increasing awareness through improved airport-based training; standardizing safety signage and procedures; identifying and sharing best practices; and enhancing and coordinating enforcement of airport rules and regulations.
The Flight Safety Foundation is an independent, non-profit, international organization engaged in research, auditing, education, advocacy and publishing to improve aviation safety. The mission of the Foundation is to pursue the continuous improvement of global aviation safety and the prevention of accidents.
