The Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) today announced that beginning this week and extending through the end of the year, Logan International Airport will be undertaking airfield maintenance and construction projects.
During occasional runway closures due to construction, and depending on wind and weather conditions, different runway configurations will be used to accommodate operations at Logan. As a result, residents from neighboring communities may experience an increased or decreased number of overflights while runway work is ongoing.
The projects include: lighting replacement on Runway 4R-22L; Runway 4R-22L pavement rehabilitation; site preparation for Runway 14-32; and installation of the safety area on Runway 4L-22R.
All project activities will take place on Logan’s airfield. Construction vehicles will use designated highway routes and will not be permitted to travel on neighborhood streets to access the site.
The schedule is Monday through Friday with occasional weekend work. Some projects will require night work to minimize operational disruptions and reduce runway closures.
Massport annually engages in regular maintenance of Logan’s airfield to ensure runways and taxiways are safe and operational in all weather conditions.
