On November 2, 2003 Icelandair Cargo will begin weekly freighter service to Logan Airport from Liege in Belgium via Reykjavik's Keflavik Airport. The new Sunday flight will carry up to 39 tons of payload on Boeing 757-200PF aircraft.

Approximately half the load will be general freight originating in Europe and half will be Icelandic fresh fish. Icelandair's daily passenger flights currently carry 5 to 10 tons of mainly fresh Icelandic seafood. The new cargo service comes at a time when US demand for fresh whitefish is peaking.

Return flights from Boston will operate via Halifax. Icelandair Cargo has served Halifax for almost a year with 757 freighters originating in New York. By combining Halifax with Boston the uplift in Halifax of mainly live lobster can be doubled. Lobsters are transferred at Keflavik Airport to the Icelandair Cargo network to Scandinavia and Central Europe.

Icelandair Cargo's three weekly flights to New York, JFK remain unchanged but frequency between Reykjavik and Liege is increased from 6 to 7 flights per week.
