The Massachusetts Port Authority is continuing its role as a leader in aviation security by testing an iris recognition security system at Logan International Airport. The pilot program, being conducted at two security doors, captures and processes a digital image of the iris for identification verification.
Over the past year, Massport has been a pioneer in aviation security, being the first airport authority to equip State Police troopers with handheld computers, test facial recognition programs, and receive federal approval for an inline 100% bag screening plan. In addition, Massport has developed a first-in-the nation behavior pattern recognition procedure designed to identify potential terrorists through observation and questioning.
