The Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) today announced a record year for corporate jet activity at L.G. Hanscom Field with 34,526 jet operations. This represents a 3.8% increase in jet flights in 2007 surpassing the previous record set in 2006. Since 2000, jet traffic has trended upward at Hanscom while total operations have declined. The airport also reported increases in fuel sales with 10.4 million gallons pumped, which is a 13.3% increase over the previous 12 month period. Both the increase in jet activity and fuel flowage demonstrate that Hanscom supports the economy by playing a critical role in the region's transportation system as a general aviation reliever airport to Boston Logan International Airport and that businesses recognize Hanscom for its high quality services and its ideal location.
"Hanscom Field provides easy access. It connects businesses with opportunities with its location just a short distance from downtown Boston and nearby Cambridge," said Airport Director Barbara Patzner. "Hanscom has virtually no delays and we place a high premium on safety and security, all of which makes Hanscom attractive to business aviation."
Massport operates Hanscom to guarantee year-round efficiency, security and safety, with 24 hour Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting, Massachusetts State Police, Transportation Security Administration and U.S. Customs and Border Protection on site. Hanscom is a FAA Part 139 airport with two Fixed Base Operators (FBOs) “ Jet Aviation and Signature Flight Support " which accommodate all corporate aviation needs and support commercial and charter services. Hanscom operates two runways; east-west runway 11/29, 7001 feet long with full ILS/DME instrumentation for all-weather operation; and southwest-northeast runway 5/23, 5100 feet long.
Home to the largest concentration of jets based in New England, Hanscom houses 60 jet aircraft ranging in size from the new Eclipse 500 VLJ to the Global Express and Challenger aircraft. Located in Bedford Mass., Hanscom Field is a popular airport for business executives looking for convenient access to Eastern Massachusetts and "America's Technology Region" situated along the Route 128/95 and Route 495/3 corridors.
Hanscom Field is a vital link to domestic and international destinations for local companies. With its modern facilities, Hanscom is New England's premier full-service corporate and general aviation airport, contributing more than $180 million to the regional economy each year.
