The Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) and boat operators serving Logan Airport will provide free travel on all water services to and from Logan Airport on Tuesday, June 6. Passengers holding an airline ticket for travel this day may ride free on the Airport Water Shuttle, the Harbor Express or the City Water Taxi to and from Logan to downtown Boston locations and the South Shore. This special offer recognizes Water Transportation Awareness Week, a harbor-wide celebration taking place June 5-9, 2000.
The second annual Water Transportation Awareness Week aims to increase the visibility of water services in the harbor and is sponsored by Massport, The Executive Office of Transportation and Construction, The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, the Central Artery Project, the Boston Redevelopment Authority, local Transportation Management Associations and private boat operators.
"When you use one of our convenient water services to get to and from Logan, you skip all the construction, traffic, lights and rush-hour congestion," said Virginia Buckingham, Massport's executive director and CEO. "This is a relaxing and scenic alternative to sitting in a car in a tunnel."
A series of attractions are planned throughout the week including free refreshments, raffles, and giveaways on board commuter boats, ferries, private water taxis and excursion vessels.
At Logan Airport, shuttle buses make regular stops at the water dock, all airport terminals and the MBTA station. On Tuesday, June 6, Massport is offering complimentary coffee and donuts from 7-10 am at the water pavilion as well as complimentary chocolates from 3-5 pm.
From the Logan dock, the Airport Water Shuttle departs every 15 minutes, taking passengers to Rowes Wharf in just seven minutes. Harbor Express serves the South Shore and operates from Quincy's Fore River Shipyard making direct connections between Logan Airport and Long Wharf. The City Water Taxi is an on-call water service connecting the Logan dock with 12 landings in the harbor.
