The Logan Airport Employee Transportation Management Association (Logan TMA) will launch an early morning shuttle service between Massport's Chelsea Garage and the communities of Chelsea and Revere on Monday, June 11. The first run begins at 4:00 a.m. from Wonderland MBTA Station and will operate every half hour through 6:00 a.m., Monday through Friday. The last run will make a stop at the Chelsea MBTA Commuter Rail station to pick up passengers arriving inbound on trains from Rockport at 6:06 a.m. and Newburyport at 6:20 a.m.
"I'm pleased with the start-up of another shuttle for airport employees and Logan users. This underscores Massport and Logan tenants' environmental commitment to reduce congestion and emissions on neighborhood roadways by eliminating the use of private vehicles," said Virginia Buckingham, Massport Executive Director and CEO.
This is the second early morning shuttle service to offer affordable and alternative transportation for airport employees and residents of communities surrounding Logan. The Winthrop shuttle was introduced last year.
Chelsea City Manager Jay Ash added his support for the new shuttle service. "This is good news for Chelsea. Massport's Early Morning Shuttle offers residents another chance to take advantage of the economic oppportunites available at Logan Airport."
The Chelsea/Revere Early Morning Shuttle will be managed by the Logan Airport Employee Transportation Management Association, which currently oversees the Eastie Express shuttle to East Boston business locations and the Early Morning Winthrop Shuttle.
The fare schedule is: 75 cents for airport employees, $1.00 for residents and is free to Logan Airport Employee TMA members.
The shuttle route begins at Wonderland MBTA Blue Line Station with stops at Lappen's Auto, Bell Circle, Plaza Garibaldi, both in Revere, McDonald's of Chelsea, KFC on Revere Beach Parkway, Burger King, Riley's Roast Beef and the Chelsea Commuter Rail stop. Pokye Casserly, owner of the Logan/Boston Hotel Shuttle, will operate the Chelsea/Revere Early Morning Shuttle.
To sign up for the service, employees should call the shuttle service operator at 617-561-1613 to inform the driver when and where they need to be picked up. The shuttle will operate on a deviated fixed route. It will stay primarily within the route area and employees will meet the shuttle at predetermine stops near their home.
