The Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) has been advised by Harbor Connection, Inc., the operator of the Airport Water Shuttle, that they will cease operation of Water Shuttle service effective Friday, August 15, 2003 at 8:00 p.m. due to decreased ridership. The service operates between Logan International Airport and Rowes Wharf. Logan Airport will continue to be served by the Quincy Harbor Express (operating between Logan Airport, Long Wharf, and Quincy Shipyard) and the seasonal Water Taxi (serving 14 different locations within the inner harbor.)

The ridership on the Airport Water Shuttle decreased by 30% from 2001 to 2002 (from 107,400 passengers to 75,304 passengers). Preliminary figures show a continued drop in the number of passengers carried for the first half of 2003.

Massport will explore additional water transportation options for the airport dock. For the same price as the Water Shuttle ($10 one-way), passengers can use the Water Taxi for easy travel between downtown Boston and the airport.
