Open Space
Massport has also worked with community leaders to create more parks and open space for residents. This includes award-winning parks like the South Boston Maritime Park and the Piers Park in East Boston. It also includes the new 18 acre Bremen Street Park in East Boston and up to $15 million for a series of four Airport Edge Buffers. Massport also improved a two-mile-long trail system located on 42.5 acres of property at L.G. Hanscom Field. The trails now allow the public to walk from town-owned conservation land in Bedford to Virginia Road in Concord while also providing an emergency access to remote areas of the airport.

Parks
Parks give a city breathing space and provide its residents with quiet sanctuaries from the usual urban noise of sidewalks, streets and skyscrapers. While Massport’s primary mission is to provide transportation services, the enjoyment that parks and open space bring to those living near its facilities is also an important part of Massport’s commitment to be a good neighbor.
More than anything else they do, parks should bring communities together. Massport’s parks and open space do that by celebrating the city’s proud heritage and providing enjoyment to residents for many years to come.
