Massport's Defined Benefit Pension Plan
Massport employees who work a minimum of 21 hours a week are enrolled in the Massachusetts Port Authority Employees’ Retirement System (MPAERS) pension plan. This defined benefit plan provides eligible employees with a lifetime retirement allowance based on group assignment, age at retirement, total creditable service, and salary. You become vested in the plan with 10 years of creditable service.
Employee contributions are set by statute. Massport makes employer contributions based on annual actuarial valuations.
Massport employees do not contribute to Social Security and are therefore impacted by the Government Pension Offset and the Windfall Elimination Provision.
