Massport works hard to be a good neighbor to those who live near our facilities. Whether it’s Logan Airport, Conley Container Terminal, Flynn Cruiseport Boston, Worcester Regional Airport, or Hanscom Field, we recognize that people in neighboring communities are affected by the daily operation of our facilities. At Massport, we strive for open communication and partnerships with our neighbors to lessen the impacts of our operations, improve quality of life, and create opportunities.
Over the past 10 years, Massport has contributed more than $250 million to our neighboring communities in the form of grants, foundations, parks, summer job programs, scholarships, and other initiatives.
Piers Park II
Massport is actively engaged with the East Boston community to create more vibrant, public spaces. We are collaborating with the East Boston Pier Project Advisory Committee on a final design for a 4.5-acre Piers Park II, which will be adjacent to the award-winning Piers Park.
Piers Park III
After responding to Massport's RFP for a potential Piers Park III, the Trustees of Reservations has been working on a preliminary design to transform an aging East Boston waterfront pier into a 3.6-acre park. Piers Park III will be designed with resiliency features to help protect the neighborhood from sea level rise and flooding.
Our ongoing investments in the community include:
- Charitable giving, scholarships, and summer jobs.
- An annual STEM Expo for middle school and high school students.
- Creation of the East Boston, Winthrop, and South Boston Foundations that provide community grants.
- 3 miles — and more than 33 acres — of green space in East Boston, developed or managed by Massport.
- Over 4.5 acres of dedicated green space in South Boston.
- 15 parks and open spaces in East Boston and South Boston.
