Airport Parking Close To Capacity
Familes Urged to Take Logan Express Service and $ave During April School Vacation
BOSTON – The Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) expects increased passenger travel at Boston Logan during April as schools in New England empty out for vacation. To help reduce vehicle trips to the airport, Massport is offering a special Logan Express discount that could add up to more than $140 in savings by not parking at the airport. New this year, children 17 and under now ride free, when accompanied by an adult, on Logan Express and adult passengers will pay half off their round-trip bus fare. For a family of four traveling for a seven day April vacation, roundtrip Logan Express service including parking will cost $44, a dramatic savings over Logan’s Central Garage, which would cost $189, or Economy Parking, which would cost $108.
“April school vacation is always a busy time at the airport, and is the single busiest week for parking, as families escape the last vestiges of winter,” said Massport’s Director of Aviation Edward C. Freni. “With increased demand for on-airport parking, Logan Express is not only an easy and cost effective option for families, this year it is a MUST. If you haven’t tried the service before give it a try and leave the driving to us.”
For April vacation Massport is offering a special Logan Express parking rate of $22 between April 10, and April 26, 2013 for 4-14 day parking. Travelers must enter a Logan Express parking lot between 12:01 a.m. on Wednesday, April 10 through 11:59 p.m. Friday, April 26 to be eligible for the special parking rate. Logan Express provides bus service every half hour between Logan Airport and Woburn, Braintree and Framingham, and hourly service between Logan and Peabody. Buses will be added to meet the anticipated increase in demand and maintain the posted schedule. For frequent travelers, Massport is now offering a 10 ride book of tickets for $75, a 30% savings over the standard rate.
For travelers choosing public transportation, the MBTA Silver Line provides service between South Station and Logan’s terminals every 10 minutes. Outbound service from Logan Airport to the South Boston Seaport District and South Station is free. The MBTA Blue Line provides subway service between Boston and Airport Station. Massport provides free shuttle service to and from all terminals. Water transportation is also available by water taxi companies providing on-call service to points throughout Downtown Boston from the Logan dock
Massport advises travelers to check with their airline for flight information and to allow additional time to get to the airport. For traveler convenience, Massport provides free wifi supported by advertising and sponsorship in each terminal and the cell phone waiting lot. Massport encourages travelers to visit its mobile optimized website, Massport.com to check flight status, parking conditions and public transportation options from their smartphone or tablet device. Travelers can also download Airport Wayfinder, a series of Logan Airport videos that are available on mobile devices from the app store.
Massport recommends people meeting arriving passengers use Logan’s cell phone waiting lot to help reduce roadway and curb-side congestion. The lot is open 24 hours a day and is conveniently located just minutes from the terminals at the intersection of Hotel Drive and Service Road, near the airport Gulf Station. Drivers are asked to stay no longer than 30 minutes and to wait with their vehicles. Massport also encourages the use of Logan Express locations for meeting and dropping off travelers.
