MassDOT to Motorists: Plan Ahead for I-90 Restrictions through Boston
Ted Williams Tunnel Westbound Complete Overnight Lane Closure, I-90 Westbound, is Wednesday, February 27 into Thursday, February 28
BOSTON- February 26, 2013—This coming Wednesday, overnight into Thursday, February 28, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation’s enhanced maintenance schedule will require complete lane closures of the Ted Williams Tunnel, Interstate 90 Westbound, through Boston.
Beginning in East Boston, I-90 Westbound traffic will be diverted to the Sumner Tunnel. Inside the Sumner Tunnel, traffic should keep RIGHT and take the Storrow Drive ramp to reach Leverett Circle. From Leverett Circle, take I-93 Southbound to access I-90 Westbound. A second detour will be active for truckers. Trucks will be directed Northbound on Route 1A to Route 16 Westbound to Route 1 Southbound (Tobin Bridge) to I-93 Southbound.
Maintenance crews, contractors, along with State and Boston Police will begin set-up for the lane closures on Tuesday evening at 11pm. Ramps that provide access to I-90 Westbound will begin closing at 11:15pm. The full closure will begin at midnight on Wednesday and last until 5am Thursday morning.
