At 6:00 AM on Saturday, March 16, 2002, the Central Artery plans to open a new direct connection from the eastbound Ted Williams Tunnel (entering Logan) to the Logan Airport outbound road which connects with Route 1A. Through traffic should stay in the left lanes in the Ted Williams Tunnel and watch for signs directing traffic to this new connection. Immediately after exiting the main tunnel in East Boston, through traffic should bear right to the new ramp which will bring them directly to the airport outbound road beyond the Terminals.
This connection will eliminate the need for through traffic headed north to circle the terminal area roadways to access Route 1A. This change will cut the time it takes to access Route 1A via the Ted Williams Tunnel by 5 to 15 minutes depending on traffic conditions.
