Sean M. O'Brien

Sean M. O'Brien has been president of Teamsters Local 25 since 2007. As a fourth generation Teamster, O’Brien has worked his way up from driving a truck, to shop steward, to president and in 2011 being the youngest executive board member ever elected to the International Brotherhood of Teamsters.

Representing more than 11,000 members and their families, O’Brien has worked with Massachusetts House Speaker Robert DeLeo to pass the film tax credit that has put countless Teamsters to work and brought movies and jobs to the state; made Teamsters Local 25 the premier fundraiser for Autism Speaks New England, raising more than $2-million dollars for the charity in the last six years; and passed the autism insurance bill that in January 2011 that made it the law to require insurers to pay for autism-related expenses making MA the 24th state to adopt.

In 2011 O’Brien was elected the youngest member of the executive board of the International as an Eastern Regional Vice President as part of the Hoffa-Hall Slate in the 2011 Election of Teamsters International Union Officers. O'Brien received the most votes out of all the candidates running for this position, with 45,573 votes received. The term commenced in March 2012 and is a five year term.

In 2012 O’Brien was appointed by Governor Patrick to the board of the Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) and will serve a seven year term.

O’Brien sits on the Board of Directors for Autism Speaks New England and the executive board of Teamsters Joint Council 10.
