To ease the concern of travelers during the I-90 Connector Tunnel and I-90 exit 24 closures, Massport is providing the following tips for traveling to Boston Logan International Airport.
How early should I plan to get to Boston Logan International Airport to make my flight? As a general rule, Massport advises people traveling on international flights to arrive two hours before their flight and, for those traveling domestically, one hour before. Travelers need to take into consideration the time of day and day of the week they will be traveling to Logan and plan ahead. Traffic is lighter midday and on weekends but everyone should be aware of the best route or travel alternative that is most appropriate to their travel. We advise travelers driving to the airport to expect traffic delays and allow for additional time to get to the airport. For up to date information on driving to the airport visit www.flylogan.com. Can I still park my car at the airport? Parking is still available at the airport and tune to Logan Radio 1650AM as you approach the airport to get up-to-the-minute information on current parking conditions. Once at the airport, follow the parking instructions on the message boards posted along the roadway. For current parking conditions, click here. At Boston Logan’s Central Garage we are adding three new parking levels to give customers an additional 2,880 spaces. Comprehensive renovations and upgrades to the existing garage are also contained in the project, including new garage elevators and stair towers, a new exterior façade, improved signage and graphics, better pedestrian circulation and transfers, improved utilities, enhanced security and emergency features, and automated parking pay stations for express exiting. Construction on the $205 million expansion project began in 2004 and will be completed in 2007 What are other transportation alternatives to Logan Airport? Massport has posted alternative transportation options to Logan Airport on our website, for a complete list of travel options click here. . Are the airlines delaying departures because of the traffic detours? No. Planes must depart as scheduled. We advise travelers to allow for additional time to get to the airport What is Massport doing to let arriving travelers know about the roadway changes? Massport is handing out fliers to arriving passengers explaining Big Dig closures, possible driving routes to different parts of the state and information on ground transportation alternatives. When will the tunnels re-open? Safety is the first priority and Governor Romney has said as soon as the tunnels are deemed safe they will re-open to the public. It is possible some portions will re-open in weeks, other portions may be months away. As soon as opening dates and times are determined, Massport will provide updated information on its website. Does Massport operate the tunnels? No, but we are working closely with the Turnpike Authority and Governor Romney to monitor the situation where our customers rely on the tunnels for travel to and from Massport facilities. |
