Inside the Airport
Security

In response to increased security measures for air passengers nationwide, the Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) advises travelers to be aware of new screening procedures and policies at Boston Logan International Airport. Please visit the TSA website for the latest travel information, including a complete listing of permitted, prohibited and duty-free items at www.tsa.gov .

To help minimize confusion and alleviate travel concerns, Massport has compiled the following tips:

Before Leaving for the Airport:

  • Check with your airline to confirm status of flights and/or cancellations. Massport advises passengers traveling on domestic flights to leave for the airport one hour earlier than they originally planned and passengers on international flights two hours before their scheduled departure time. It is recommended that travelers wear slip-on shoes without ties. Proper identification IS A MUST. All adults need either a PHOTO ID issued by a government authority or TWO other forms of identification at least ONE of which must be issued by a government authority.Minors are not required to have IDs. You will need proof of same-day travel, such as a ticket, boarding pass and, for e-tickets, either a printed confirmation with ticket number or airline/agency-generated itinerary with ticket number. Bring a note from a physician if you have surgical steel implants.
  • Keep in mind that wine or duty-free liquor will not be permitted onboard aircraft. For more information on duty free items, please click here.

Packing For Your Trip

  • Pack light when preparing your carry-on baggage. This will facilitate security screening.
  • The following PROHIBITED items will be confiscated from all carry-on luggage and should only be packed in checked baggage:
    • All beverages
    • All Aerosols
    • Shampoo
    • Suntan lotion
    • Creams, toothpaste, hair gels, liquid make-up, liquid eyeliner, perfume, cologne, lip-gloss, contact lens solution, and other items of similar consistency that you would use on your face or body.
  • The following PERMITTED items for carry-on luggage include:
    • Baby formula / milk, baby food in small containers if a baby or small child is traveling.
    • Prescription medicine with a name that matches the passengers ticket.
    • Essential non-prescription medicines not to exceed 4ozs. (120ml) per container.
    • Liquids or gels for diabetic passengers who indicate a need for such items to address their medical condition. Quantities are limited to no greater than 8 ozs. (240ml) per container.
    • Solid cosmetics and personal hygiene items such as lipstick in a tube, solid deodorant, lip balm and similar solids.
  • Have medical documentation readily available for syringes or injection devices. Make sure prescription medicine is professionally labeled.
  • Electronic devices such as cell phones, cameras and iPods may trigger secondary inspections, so it is recommended that you pack them in checked baggage if possible.
