Traveling With Your Kids:
To help make traveling more enjoyable for you and your family, Massport suggests using the following tips and creative activity ideas.
- Talk with your child in advance about expected behavior and respect for the other passengers. Parents should familiarize themselves with Massport's Security Page for TSA tips on traveling with Children.
- Pack a snack and beverage. "Meals to Fly" are available at most Logan eateries. Your child may not be on the same schedule as the airline.
- Bring along several of your child's favorite small quiet toys as well as a few new things for comfort.
- Remember to pack and carry on extra diapers, bottles and change of clothes.
- Arrive at your gate at least 30 minutes before regular boarding time.
- Prepare for changes in air pressure during the flight. The air pressure changes during takeoff and landing may cause some children to experience ear discomfort. Give infants or toddlers a bottle; older preschoolers may find a drink box or gum helpful.
Travel Games To Play:
- Make a Travel Scrapbook!
Encourage your child to collect different materials while you travel (like brochures, ticket stubs, or postcards). Assemble the items into a book when you return home and discuss your favorite parts of the trip.
- Use Your Imagination!
Start a story and have your child add to it. "Once upon a time there was a little girl who lived in the woods. She lived high up in an old oak tree with her pet monkey...." Ask your child questions to continue the story: "What did she do in the Tree?"
- Create a Work of Art
Bring crayons and paper in your carry-on bag. Create a free form drawing by making a few random lines or shapes. Let your child continue the drawing. Take turns adding to it.
- Play "I see Something"
Choose an object that you and your child can see. Describe one detail about the object and ask your child to guess the object. Offer additional clues about the object. Take turns at who can guess. For example, "I see something in the sky." (cloud)
