Environmental The Noise Complaint Line provides individuals the ability to express their concerns about aviation noise (activities) or to ask questions regarding noise at Logan. Callers ask a range of questions such as "Why is this runway in use?"; "What time do the planes stop flying?" ; and "Was that aircraft off-course?" (See FAQs for additional general questions and answers). The Noise Complaint Line is staffed twenty-four hours a day, 365 days a year. The Complaint Line includes an option to leave a message in English (or Spanish) or talk to Massport staff directly. The Noise Abatement Office (NAO) staff documents noise line complaints by obtaining information from the caller about the nature of the complaint, time of the occurrence, location of callers residence, and the activity that was disturbed. The NAO uses the collected information to determine the probable activity responsible for the complaint and writes a letter report to the complainant. The letter includes the original complaint, a response that identifies the activity responsible for the call (arrivals, departures, runup, etc.), meteorological information at the time of the call (a major factor in aviation activities), runways in use at the time of the call, and a notice that the FAA will receive a copy of the report. In addition to filing noise complaints by telephone, complaints now may be filed online. To assist us in answering your questions, we encourage you to use the AirportMonitor to provide as much detail as possible regarding a specific flight. The Airport Monitor (particularly if used in Replay Mode) provides key information such as aircraft type, altitude, airline, time of event. In fact, we hope that by using Airport Monitor many of your basic questions will already be addressed. Typically it will take NAO staff two weeks to respond. Some responses may take longer depending on the complexity of the question(s) being asked. Click here to send us an eMail complaint. Please be sure to include all contact information so that we can respond. |
