Environmental
Massport is an international leader in the evaluation and communication of environmental conditions at Logan. Initially, airport-wide environmental conditions were presented in the form of Generic Environmental Impact Reports (GEIRs). The GEIRs were prepared every three years, and provided an overview of the environmental effects of airside and landside activities. In addition, the GEIRs described ongoing environmental beneficial measures and tracked relevant mitigation programs. GEIRs included a comprehensive public review process through the Massachusetts Environmental Policy Act (MEPA) [301 CMR 11.00]. In 1988, the Secretary of the MA Executive Office of Environmental Affairs (EOEA) revised the GEIR process to include a requirement for Massport to evaluate the impacts of long-term growth at Logan. In 1993, Massport requested that EOEA modify the process to allow for the GEIRs to be filed on a five-year cycle, with Annual Updates prepared in the interim years. Currently, Massport produces an Environmental Status and Planning Report (ESPR) every five years, and Environmental Data Reports (EDRs) in the interim years. The ESPRs and EDRs have replaced the former GEIR/Annual Updates. Key sections of the ESPR/EDRs address Logan activity levels (aircraft and vehicular traffic), Logan planning initiatives, regional transportation, noise abatement, air quality emissions reduction, water quality management, sustainability initiatives and environmental mitigation tracking. The documents also provide updates on the status of current Logan construction projects. The EDR for calendar year 2006 was filed in 2007, click here to view it. The most recent Logan ESPR is posted on this website and can be viewed by clicking here. |
