Jane Goldman Biography Jane Goldman left the Southern Plains of Dallas, Texas, where she was born in l951, to attend Smith College, then went on to the University of Wisconsin in Madison where she earned her MFA in Graphic Arts in l978. She returned to Massachusetts in 1978 and embarked on a career as a printmaker and painter. In 1986 she and 10 other artists converted a 100-year old soap factory in Somerville into an artists' cooperative. With partner Catherine Kernan, she opened Mixit Print Studio in 1987. She is a nationally recognized printmaker. Goldman has won a number of fellowships and grants which have allowed her to travel the world. She has had residencies at the Cite des Arts Internationale in France, the Ballinglen Arts Foundation in Ireland, the Oberpfalzer Kunstlerhaus in Germany, and MacDowell Colony, and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. She has had solo exhibitions in Dallas, Boston, New York, Madison, WI, Seattle, Washington, DC, and Schwandorf, Germany, and her work is in the permanent collections of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, Harvard University's Fogg Museum, the Cleveland Museum of Arts, the Library of Congress, and the Bibiotheque Nationale in Paris, et. al. Her recently commissioned public art installation, Atlantic Journey, a 35,000-square foot terrazzo floor, forms the walkway connecting Terminals A & E at Boston's Logan Airport. It is designed to be a journey into the depths of the Atlantic and depicts the creatures which inhabit those waters. It is Goldman's first foray into public art, took three years to complete, and is the largest such piece in New England. Goldman speaks about her work in this Question and Answer session. |
