Massport offers several scholarship opportunities for graduating high school seniors. Submissions for the 2014 Butler, Rauseo and Richards scholarship applications and essays will be accepted between January 14, 2014 and April 25, 2014. Thomas J. Butler Memorial Scholarship
The $5,000 Thomas J. Butler Memorial Scholarship will be awarded annually to a student who resides in South Boston, is graduating from high school and has been accepted to an accredited college or university by the submission deadline.
Butler, the long-time Massport Director of Government and Community Affairs and son of South Boston, was the former mayor of the South Boston Boys Club, Youth Counselor and then Director of Little City Hall in Charlestown and former president of the South Boston Citizens Association and member of the South Boston Irish American Society. When he arrived at Massport in 1987 as a manager of intergovernmental relations, Butler was a licensed social worker who had worked in the Boston Juvenile Court, and for the City of Boston. He passed away in March 2011.
Donna Rauseo Memorial Scholarship
The $5,000 Donna Rauseo Memorial Scholarship will be awarded annually to a young woman from East Boston who is graduating from high school and has been accepted to an accredited college or university.
Rauseo was a long-time employee of Massport and lifelong resident of East Boston. She graduated from East Boston High School and worked for more than 20 years as the executive assistant to Thomas J. Kinton, Jr. when he served as Aviation Director of Logan Airport and later as CEO and Executive Director for Massport. She passed away in June 2009.
Lowell Richards Memorial Scholarship
The $5,000 Lowell L. Richards III Memorial Scholarship will be awarded annually to a student who resides in the City of Boston, is graduating from a Boston public high school and has been accepted to an accredited college or university by the submission deadline.
Richards was responsible for Massport’s agency-wide strategic and master planning activities, including the airports and the seaport, as well as the agency’s private commercial and residential real estate development in South Boston, East Boston, and Charlestown. He joined Massport in 1999. Richards previously was an Assistant Secretary of Administration and Finance and Chief Development Officer for the Commonwealth and Deputy Mayor for Fiscal Affairs and Collector-Treasurer in the City of Boston. He passed away in 2012.

Diversity STEM Scholarships
Massport's Office of Diversity & Inclusion/Compliance offers a scholarship program to foster diversity in the transportation industry and connect the best and brightest graduating minority high school seniors to college scholarships to support the Commonwealth’s STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Initiative. All graduating minority high school seniors from the Neighboring Communities interested in pursuing a degree in areas of study including aviation, business administration, accounting, architecture, engineering, finance, and human resources are eligible to apply.
