Boston Logan International Airport launches Airport Wayfinder to welcome Travelers.

3D web tour provides travelers with a new way to obtain airport information before they fly

December 20, 2006

The Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) today debuted on its website, massport.com, a 3D animated web tour of Boston Logan International Airport. Known as Airport Wayfinder™, the animated visual information program uses the latest Internet streaming video technologies to welcome and orient passengers to Boston Logan in both English and Spanish. The program provides travelers with a new way to obtain airport information before they fly, giving travelers captivating 3D perspectives of airport overviews and locations of everything from passenger arrival and departure procedures, inter-terminal connection processes, to a variety of passenger services.

Boston Logan International Airport’s acting director of aviation, Edward Freni said, “Airport Wayfinder will be a valuable addition to Logan’s customer service program. Travelers are very busy, and often constrained by time,” he said. “The Airport Wayfinder bilingual service will make their arrivals and departures more efficient, friendly and less stressful.”

By calling up Airport Wayfinder online, travelers can access needed airport information from their home or office or at the airport. Future plans include adding a Shops & Dining area online, to promote Boston Logan’s airport concessions.

“With the rollout of Airport Wayfinder, Massport will be offering our customers the opportunity to visually preview many aspects of Boston Logan, from the international arrival process, to parking options, to ground transportation,” said Brad Martin, Massport's Manager of Public Services, who is supervising the Airport Wayfinder Project. “The overall goal of adding the Airport Wayfinder to our website is to make our customer's experience at Boston Logan International Airport as seemless and as enjoyable as possible".

Massport partnered with Air Travel Video Technologies, LLC (ATV) and Airports Council International (ACI) to offer the Airport Wayfinder system. Nancy Grimes, ATV president, said, “Adding Boston Logan to our portfolio of more than 60 international airports and airlines served by Airport Wayfinder is very gratifying, and reinforces our belief that travelers really benefit from our unique airport information service.”

Boston Logan International Airport is the gateway to New England, offering nonstop service to 76 domestic and 33 international destinations.  In 2005, Logan handled more than 27 million passengers. As the airport completes its $4.4 billion modernization program; new terminals, parking facilities, roadways and airport concessions have transformed Boston Logan into a world-class facility capable of meeting the needs of local travelers and businesses for years to come.
