Tobin Bridge Traffic Notice

As part of Massport’s in depth inspection of the Tobin Bridge, conducted every four years, this afternoon, we discovered a crack on a transverse cross floor beam on the upper level of the bridge. It appears from further inspection that the crack was caused by corrosion.

As a precaution, Massport decided to place a weight restriction on the Bridge. We are prohibiting truck travel on the upper level of the Tobin at this time. Inspectors and engineers are on site and investigating the root cause of this abnormality. Temporary and permanent repairs will be made as quickly as possible.

All trucks, buses and commercial vehicles are not allowed on the upper deck south bound roadway until temporary repairs are made. Massport anticipates removing the weight restriction by the end of the weekend.
