Boston Logan International Airport Prepares for Heavy Passenger Traffic During Upcoming Holiday

The Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) is preparing for a busy holiday at Boston Logan International Airport and is hoping to spread some holiday cheer by offering discounted parking at the airport and providing live music in the terminals.

Beginning Friday, December 21, at 3:00 a.m. through Saturday, December 29, at 3:00 a.m., travelers will receive the economy lot parking rate for a daily savings of $6 at the Central Parking Garage, Terminal B Garage and Terminal E lots. The discounted rate will be in effect no matter how long a vehicle is parked as long as the driver enters one of the parking facilities during the dates and times listed above. The discount will be applied automatically when you pay for parking. Travelers are encouraged to allow for additional time to arrive at Logan and board their aircraft during this busy holiday period and to monitor www.flylogan.com for updated airline information.

To assist travelers at the security checkpoint, the TSA has launched SimpliFLY, a program that advises passengers on how to pack smartly to get through the checkpoint faster. The TSA advises passengers to wait to wrap holiday gifts when they reach their final destination. Packages may be unwrapped for inspection. Passengers are also encouraged to utilize the CheckPoint Mailers kiosks located at each terminal to mail home items that are not allowed through the TSA checkpoint.  Simply pick up a 6"x9" plastic pouch, complete the payment and shipping form attached, enclose your item and completed form in the pouch, and drop it in the box. For suburban travelers not driving to the airport, Massport is adding Logan Express buses to accommodate increased ridership. Communities served are Braintree (south), Framingham (west), Peabody and Woburn (north). Full-service bus terminals and parking are available at each location. Children under 12 ride free and active military personnel traveling in uniform may ride for free on any Logan Express service. For those travelers taking the T, additional buses will be added to the on-airport routes to the MBTA station to cover increased ridership on the MBTA Blue Line. Boston Logan’s $4.4 billion modernization program, including new terminals, parking facilities, roadways and airport concessions, has transformed the airport into a world-class facility capable of meeting the needs of local travelers and businesses in the 21st Century. The airport terminals and walkways are now decorated for the season with more than 50 wreaths and eight Christmas trees. Trees outside of some of the terminals and along the outbound road are lit with holiday lights. Musicians, including an acapella group, a jazz trio, a horn quartet, and the Winchester High School Octets, will be in terminals at peak travel hours on Dec. 20 and Dec. 21. Boston Logan also has more low fare flights than any airport in New England and in 2006 handled nearly 28 million passengers.
