Massport Board Votes To Allow Shuttle America To Begin Service at Hanscom

The Massport Board voted unanimously to allow the Authority to enter into an operating agreement with Conneticut-based Shuttle America to begin providing four round-trip flights a day from Hanscom Field in Bedford. Shuttle America will fly 50-seat, Dash 8-300 aircraft to Trenton,NJ, Buffalo, NY, and Norfolk, VA.

Residents from the Hanscom area attended the Board meeting to voice concerns over increased traffic and noise related to the flights at Hanscom. Massport Executive Director and CEO Peter Blute noted that he received a call from a Department of Transportation Official reminding him that under federal regulations, Massport has an obligation to allow any certified air carrier access to Massport facilities.

Massport Board Chair Mark Robinson stated that the Shuttle American proposal was consistent with the Hanscom Master Plan and past uses. He urged the Board to approve their application.

The start of service is pending some facilities improvements at Hanscom but is expected by early Fall.
