Terminal A project receives MEPA OK

The Massachusetts Secretary of Environmental Affairs issued a MEPA Certificate for the Environmental Notification Form filed by Delta Air Lines for the rebuilding of Terminal A at Logan Airport. The Secretary acknowledged that Delta's filing contained a substantial amount of environmental analysis and that the new terminal design will act as a sound barrier to the Jeffries Point community in East Boston. The Secretary dismissed claims that the project was airport expansion and did not require an analysis off-site alternatives.

The Secretary's certificate outlined the areas that must be studied in greater detail in the Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR), including:
  • increasing building height to create a more substantial noise barrier;
  • increasing employee HOV usage and ensuring HOV access at a new terminal; and
  • evaluating the architectural importance and operational deficiencies of the existing building.
Once the additional analysis has been completed, Delta Air Lines will file a DEIR which will be followed by a public comment and review period.
