Fast Lane comes to Tobin Bridge, All Lanes Equipped to Handle Fast Lane Customers

Fast Lane, the popular electronic toll collection system today debuted on the Tobin Memorial Bridge. Thousands of motorists who use the bridge everyday will take advantage of the Fast Lanes no-stop convenience. For added ease and safety, the Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) has equipped all seven lanes on the Tobin with electronic eyes to read transponders, allowing Fast Lane subscribers to utilize any tollbooth marked "all vehicles."

"The Fast Lane electronic toll system is a smart and easy way to travel," said Massports CEO and Executive Director, Virginia Buckingham. "Electronic collection systems are the wave of the future and were pleased that this modern convenience is now available for Tobin Bridge users."

The Fast Lane is a trademark of the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority (MTA) which first introduced the system on its roadways last fall. The MTA owns and operates the Massachusetts Turnpike, Ted Williams and Sumner/Callahan Tunnels.

"Installing the Fast Lane on the Tobin will close the gap in providing seamless travel on all Massachusetts toll roads" said Mary Jane OMeara, director of the Tobin Bridge. "It eliminates stopping, waiting and fumbling to pay tolls or purchase coupon books."

Applications for the Fast Lane program are available for regular and commercial vehicles and may be obtained at toll plazas on the bridge or by calling the Fast Lane at 877-627-7745 or the bridge at 617-241-2036. Transponders cost $27.50 each. A deposit of $20.00 will be required for most vehicles.
