EPA Settlement with American Airlines Results in $400,000 in Clean Air Improvements for Logan
As part of a settlement with the EPA, American Airlines will spend $400,000 for electric powered belt loaders at Logan Airport. The improvements are expected to remove nearly 700 tons of pollutants from the air annually.
The equipment purchase settles an enforcement action for American's use of high-sulfur fuel at ten U.S. airports; violations did not occur at Logan. The EPA recognized American for voluntarily auditing its facilities for violations, reporting results to the EPA and quickly implementing corrective measures.
The EPA and Massport are founding members of the Clean Air Partners, a coalition of government agencies and private companies with a goal of furthering the use of alternative fuel technology at Logan Airport.
