Massport Unveils Visitor Service Center at Logan Airport; First Airport to Offer Concierge Services
The Massachusetts Port Authority, in conjunction with the Greater Boston Convention and Visitors Bureau, Mass Convention Center Authority, Mass Office of Travel and Tourism, Mass Lodging Association and Greater Boston Concierge Association, today opened a new Visitor Service Center at Terminal C at Logan Airport. The service center will feature a wide array of concierge-style services for travelers that range from the ability to make hotel and dinner reservations to assistance in planning day tours.
The new centers provide travelers with easier, more convenient access to Bostons world class restaurants, hotels and tourist hot spots, said Massport Aviation Director Thomas J. Kinton, Jr. Our partnership with the local tourism industry has resulted in a first of its kind program that gives travelers the information and services they need as soon as they step off the plane in Boston.
Logan is the first airport in the country to offer concierge services. The service centers will be staffed by Massport Public Information Representatives who have undergone customized Concierge Association training program. In addition to training, the Concierge Association has provided Massport staff with the same restaurant guides and other reference materials that hotel concierges use to service their customers. Direct phone links from the service center will allow Massport staff to tap into the existing reservation and information networks to assist travelers at Logan.
The Visitor Service Center opened just in time to service holiday travelers and will feature the following services:
- reservations service for Boston area hotels;
- assistance planning and purchasing tickets for day tours;
- restaurant information and reservations service;
- ticket purchases for theater and sporting events;
- information on convention and tourism services; and,
- access to Massports website and real-time flight information.
We are bringing the services that travelers receive in the best downtown hotels right into our terminals,said Kinton. The local tourism groups have provided our staff with the tools and training they need to serve as concierges right here at Logan.
The Visitor Service Center is located on the lower level of Terminal C. Service may be accessed from other terminals via the public information booths located on the lower levels of all the terminals. In 2000, the information booths in Terminal A and B will be replaced by full-service Visitor Service Centers. The Terminal E Visitor Service Center will be installed after construction in the terminal is complete.
