 News South Boston Maritime Park Wins Prestigious Award by The American Association Of Landscape Architects; Massport Connects South Boston Community to the Working Waterfront May 25, 2006 
The Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) announced today that the South Boston Maritime Park has won the Award of Honor by the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) for General Design. Over 500 national and international entries were considered and only 32 projects were chosen.
"Exciting changes are happening along the South Boston waterfront," said Massport CEO Craig P. Coy. "The design of the Maritime Park was a collaborative effort and I congratulate the South Boston community for their contributions and the Halverson Design Partnership and architects Machado-Silvetti Inc. for their work in helping to create a park that connects the South Boston community to the working waterfront." With sprawling green lawns offering views of Boston Harbor, the park highlights Boston's history as one of the nation's oldest and busiest seaports. Located on "D" Street and Northern Avenue, the one acre park is an inviting place to catch a glimpse of the city's working waterfront including the historic Fish Pier. Park amenities include canopied trees, pergolas, park benches and an outdoor cafi. It is accessible and convenient for people of all ages and physical capacities.
