Massport Board to Appoint Aviation Director Thomas J. Kinton, Jr. as Acting CEO
June 2, 2006
Massport Chairman John A. Quelch announced today that at its June meeting the Board will appoint Thomas J. Kinton Jr. as acting CEO of Massport. The interim appointment will become effective July 1, upon Craig P. Coy's departure after more than four years with the Authority.
In the meantime, Kinton and George K. Hertz, executive vice president, will work together with Coy to ensure a seamless transition and continue the professional management for which the Authority has come to be known.
Kinton has been with Massport for 30 years and is a well known and respected aviation professional. He has served as Aviation Director since 1993, responsible for all activities and operations of Boston Logan International Airport, Hanscom Field in Bedford and Worcester Regional Airport. Kinton also served as Acting Massport CEO from November 2001 until April 2002 prior to Coy's appointment. In 2005, Kinton was named Airport Director of the Year by Airport Revenue News.
"The Massport Board is very grateful that Tom Kinton has agreed to accept this role," said Chairman Quelch. "He knows the issues and our stakeholders very well. He'll be a tremendous support to the Board and to all of our employees in maintaining our focus on the business and ensuring a smooth leadership transition."
Kinton said, "I appreciate the confidence the Board is entrusting in me at this time of change. I will work very closely with George Hertz and my colleagues on the leadership team to make sure that Massport continues each day to address the transportation needs of the Commonwealth and New England."
Quelch added, "The Board intends to move expeditiously but deliberately in conducting a professional search for a permanent CEO."
