Massport Files L.G. Hanscom Field Runway 5/23 Safety Area Improvement Project Draft Environmental Assessment / Draft Environmental Impact Report

The Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) today announced that it has filed the L.G. Hanscom Field Runway 5/23 Safety Area Improvement Project Draft Environmental Assessment/Draft Environmental Impact Report with the Executive Office of Environmental Affairs, Massachusetts Environmental Policy Act Office (MEPA).

The report describes potential environmental effects of proposed improvements to existing Runway 5/23 Safety Areas at L. G. Hanscom Field. The proposed safety improvements are in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requirements.

Massport has requested an extended public comment period for the DEA/DEIR and anticipate publication in the August 8, 2006 issue of MEPA's Environmental Monitor. A public meeting for the project will be held on September 12, 2006 at 5:00 p.m. at L. G. Hanscom Field, Civil Air Terminal, 200 Hanscom Drive, Bedford MA. Massport has requested that the public comment period be extended to Wednesday, October 11, 2006, allowing over 60 days for public comment.
