News Massport to Rehabilitate Commonwealth Pier June 16, 2006 The Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) announced today that beginning this week and extending through the spring of 2008, Massport will be undertaking the rehabilitation of Commonwealth Pier, the site of the World Trade Center in South Boston. The project includes the construction of metal jackets around the existing caissons and the cleaning and painting of structural steel under the wharf apron. Due to the nature of the work, a higher level of noise can be expected during some portions of the project. To mitigate disruptions to residents and the business community, Massport has directed its contractor to outfit its equipment with noise dampening apparatus. All project activities will take place under the Commonwealth Pier apron. Construction vehicles will use designated truck routes and will not be permitted to travel on neighborhood streets to access the site. The construction schedule is Monday through Friday between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Some portion of the project may require night work. For more information on this project, please contact Massport's Office of Government and Community Affairs at 617-568-3711 or email aguerriero@massport.com. |
