 News CMA-CGM Adds the Port of Boston to its European Service; New Direct Container Service from North Europe to Begin in December November 28, 2006 The Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) today announced that global carrier CMA-CGM has added the Port of Boston to their trans-Atlantic rotation, starting December 7, 2006 with the maiden call of the containership CMA-CGM Elbe. The new service will call at Conley Container Terminal in South Boston every other Thursday. Boston will be the first U.S port-of-call for the CMA-CGMbs "Liberty Bridge Service" westbound from North Europe. After calling at Boston, ships on the "Liberty Bridge Service" then sail to New York, Baltimore and Norfolk, then to Le Havre, Antwerp, Rotterdam, Bremerhaven, and Liverpool before returning to Boston. The new service adds Liverpool and Rotterdam to ports served directly from Boston. "This new call underscores the strength of the New England market, and the commitment of the trade community here," said Mike Leone, Port Director for the Massachusetts Port Authority. "We are pleased to add another service that gives our importers and exporters additional frequency between Europe and Boston." The Port of Boston is also served twice weekly by Mediterranean Shipping Company on its services from Europe and the Mediterranean. China Ocean Shipping Company (COSCO) and its partners, "K" Line, Yang Ming Line, and Hanjin call Boston weekly, providing direct service between Boston and ports in China. Columbia Coastal Transport provides a weekly barge service between Boston and New York carrying containers from many other shipping carriers moving cargo into and out of New England. |
