WHAT:Official signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Port of Boston, US and the Port of Dalian, China. This sister-port relationship involves the exchange of information to explore ways to improve trade, traffic and services between the respective ports.

WHEN:Tuesday, September 20, 2005, 6:00 p.m.

WHERE:Board Room, Logan Office Center, One Harborside Drive, East Boston, MA

WHO:The China delegation will be led by Xia Deren, Mayor, Dalian Municipal Government Mr. Hui Kai, Director, Dalian Municipal Port Authority and other Chinese dignitaries.

Signing the MOU for Massport will be Craig P.Coy, CEO, Massachusetts Port Authority. Additional attendees include: Mike Leone, Director of the Port, Massachusetts Port Authority, Dan Bosley, House Chairman of the Joint Committee on Economic Development and Emerging Technology and Mark Maloney, Director of the Boston Redevelopment Authority.

SIGNIFICANCE:Asia is New Englands largest training partner. The partnership between Massport and COSCO (China Ocean Shipping Company) has thrived since it was formed three years ago. New England importers and exporters are now much more competitive in overseas markets.

This MOU pledges mutual commitment on initiatives that contribute to the effectiveness of our ports in todays competitive global climate.
