Student Reporters from the Striar Hebrew Academy report on Logan International Airport; Students to be Guest Editors of the Boston Globes Fun Pages

November 30, 2005

The reporters, ranging from ages 9 to 11, are part of an after-school program, in which they produce the school newspaper, Striar Flyer. Each year the students take a break from reporting news at the Striar Hebrew Academy and become guest editors of the Boston Globes Fun Pages. This year the students chose Logan Airport as the topic for their Fun Pages to be published in February.

During their visit to Logan Airport, the Striar Flyer reporters had an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour that included Terminal A, the airport operations communications center, a Song Boeing 757, and a demonstration by the Massachusetts State Police K-9 team. Their visit also called for an interview with Massports Director of Aviation, Thomas J. Kinton Jr. With notebooks in hand, the student reporters questioned Mr. Kinton about his day-to-day responsibilities asking pointed questions about the amount of flights, destinations and the annual number of passengers that travel through Logan Airport.

What made this so special is that it was more than an airport tour, said Thomas Kinton. The students applied the lessons they learn in school research, writing and communication skills, to a real world environment. Im looking forward to reading their story.

The Striar Hebrew Academy is a modern, Orthodox day school located in Sharon, Massachusetts. The co-educational day school serves more than 150 students, toddler through grade 6, from the South Shore area of Boston. For more information about the school, visit their website at www.striarhebrew.org.
