 News Massport Proposes New Landing Policy for the Boston Fish Pier Public Meeting Scheduled May 6, 2004 The Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) will host a forum to discuss a new proposal for landing fish at Bostons Fish Pier. The public meeting is open to all fishing industry stakeholders including fishing vessel owners, fish processors, wholesale fish buyers and Fish Pier tenants. The meeting will be held on Thursday, May 6th at 3:30 p.m. at the Exchange Conference Center on the Fish Pier, 251 Northern Avenue, Boston, MA. Massport, which owns and operates the Boston Fish Pier, has proposed a change in landing policy at the request of several vessel owners and after obtaining information and data from seafood industry sources including other ports. The intent of the forum is to open dialogue among all interested parties and to gather feedback on the new fish landing proposal. Massport remains committed to the seafood industry and to making the Boston Fish Pier an effective working facility for the fishing fleet. The New England Fisheries Management Council has indicated that in the near future there will be an increased supply of certain species of fish. Massport hopes through its revised landing policy to encourage greater use of the Fish Pier by fishing vessels, and thus increase landings in Boston. The Boston Fish Pier is the oldest working fish pier in the country. |
